Studio Pilates at Breathe Wellbeing
About Studio Pilates
Studio Pilates is a small group session (maximum 4 students per instructor), where you'll work on an individually tailored program of Pilates exercises. Studio Pilates is a customised session to address your individual imbalances, injuries, issues, or goals. After comprehensively analysing your posture and muscle balance, and finding out about your goals, and any physical limitations you may have, we'll design a customised program for you. We'll stretch you where you're tight, strengthen you where you're weak, improve your balance, coordination, endurance and your control of your body. We'll help you integrate your breath into movement more effectively, and understand your body better. Through this process, you'll learn to get even more benefit from your group classes.
The Studio setting is how Pilates was originally intended to be taught; utilising the full range of Pilates equipment including Reformer, Matwork, Cadillac, Stability Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Bosu, Spine Supporter, Stability Ball, Hand Weights, Foam Roller, Theraband, Fitness Circle... and much more. So your workouts will include plenty of variety, and almost limitless options for customisation to your individual needs and goals.
Integrating group Reformer & Matwork with your Studio Pilates sessions
We recommend a single, weekly Studio Pilates session combined with up to 3 Matwork or Reformer classes as being an ideal way to integrate the different benefits of Studio Pilates and Group Pilates classes. The Studio Pilates session is to address your individual imbalances, goals and postural issues, whilst the group classes offer general improvement in toning, flexibility, endurance, strength, and what's more, they're a lot of fun and can really help to keep you motivated through more regular practice.
Doing more than 1 Studio Pilates session per week
If you're injured, or prefer to exercise more often in the Studio environment, you may choose to do 2 or 3 Studio sessions per week to gain the benefits of a more frequent practice, instead of doing extra group classes. There are various packages available for you, which you can view on our Times and Prices page.
Getting started with Studio Pilates
You'll need to begin your Studio Pilates career at Breathe with a 1:1 assessment session (with a certified instructor), where we'll check your posture, muscle balance, strength, flexibility and balance, and find out about your goals, and any physical limitations or injuries you may have. From here we'll write your Studio Pilates program, and you'll be ready to attend your first session.
If you're injured, you may need to do several 1:1 sessions to stabilise your injury, before you're ready to move into the Studio environment (Usually 5-7 individual sessions are required for more serious injuries such as spinal disc injuries, knee or shoulder reconstructive surgery, meniscal tears etc.). This individual, rehabilitative Pilates is called Clinical Pilates. Talk to your instructor, or reception if you have questions.

"I leave every class feeling stronger - physically and mentally"
"After suffering lower back pain for a few years I had developed a fear of exercising as it more than often caused more back issues. My osteopath recommended Raphael at Breathe and since then I haven't looked back. After six months of classes and slowly building up my strength its hard to remember how far we have come. Now I feel fit, walk taller and I am getting that new toned body. Raphael and the team at Breathe are a wonderful in support - they really encouraged me.
Most importantly, I leave every class feeling stronger - physically and mentally. Do your body & mind a favour and give it a try. You won't look back! And if you are anything like me...it may result in that extra confidence encouraging you to make changes to your life. Positive changes."
