Matwork course

Matwork is the foundation of the Pilates exercise repertoire, and the Matwork Instructor course includes all the theory and practical skills you'll need to successfully launch your Pilates career from the ground up. This self-contained course also includes all the foundational skills in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, cueing, correction and movement analysis that you'll need if you choose to build your Pilates skills further with the Clinical Pilates module, or the Studio Equipment course.
You'll learn in-depth postural analysis and correction, muscle balance and exercise prescription skills. Utilising the basic biomechanical principles of Pilates, you'll become skilled at analysing a client's posture to determine their current muscle length/strength balance. You'll learn how to design and implement an individualised Pilates Matwork exercise program to achieve specific postural improvement and optimal biomechanical efficiency, motor control, strength and flexibility. You will also gain skills and confidence programming and delivering group Matwork classes.
The Breathe Matwork course includes everything you'll need to start from scratch and become a certified Pilates Matwork instructor. The course is accredited and certified through STOTT PILATES®.
Course Outline:
The Matwork Instructor Course is broken down into two main sections:
1) Classroom hours:
Your time in the classroom will provide you with an understanding of the biomechanical principles of Pilates exercise and their application through the full Matwork repertoire. Including comprehensive, in-depth training in anatomy and functional biomechanics (in the anatomy course module), postural assessment, exercise programming, cueing, correction, and modification. The Matwork course will equip you with the full range of skills you'll need to begin or progress your professional career as a Pilates instructor.
Like all Breathe Pilates instructor courses, the Matwork course includes plenty of hands-on, practical application, feedback and support throughout, and beyond the course. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple different bodies in both group and individual training scenarios.
You will learn effective use of small props including arc barrel, flex-band, foam roller and fitness circle to increase, decrease or change the challenge of any given exercise. You will learn 92 Pilates Matwork exercises, with multiple modifications for most exercises to accomodate different client needs and abilities.
2) Supervised Practice teaching days:
The course includes weekly supervised practice teaching days, that have been designed to help you achieve many, or all of your required observation and practice teaching hours. These days are here to help you practice the content you covered on the course, ask about issues you have thought about between course dates and to make sure you are on track to passing your exam and becoming a professional certified instructor. You can bring in friends, family or your fellow Pilates instructor students to practice teach with, or simply come in and do your own personal Pilates practice under supervision from a fully certified Pilates Instructor or Instructor Trainer.
Learning Outcomes:
Learn to apply biomechanical principles of core stability, peripheral mobility, breathing and alignment using relevant exercises
Conduct a detailed postural analaysis and use your findings to determine muscle length/strength balance at all major joints
Specific exercise programming for individual postural needs, based on principles of biomechanics and findings of postural assessment
Understand the use and application of each exercise in the full Matwork repertoire.
